What is Domain Authority and How to get Website ranking?

What is Domain Authority?

Domain Authority (DA) is a metric that serves as a handy heuristic in the SEO and Digital Marketing world. Put simply, it provides insight into how likely a site is to rank for specific keywords, based on the SEO authority it holds. There are numerous tools that can help us arrive at these useful scores. Pagerank is no longer available to the public, Google has now switched off the API.

Domain Authority is not a Google Metric – service like Moz.com and Ahrefs.com construct their own metrics to try and ‘weight’ websites. We can access via their webistes and APIs.

Number of backlinks you can try to get from Search Console. This is only accessible via their ‘download latest links’ csvs however. There is no API access beyond querying your search analytics.

So, how does Moz, Ahrefs and Majestic build their index? Manually crawling the web like Google?

Moz, Ahrefs and Majestic are just a few companies that do broad web crawls using similar behaviour to Google. The size and quality of their databases compared to Google’s own varies and each competes to try and build it to be as close as possible. They build vast indexes of backlinks in order to perform these estimates. There is no feesible way to do this without building a huge database.

Once you connect your Moz, Ahrefs and Majestic API key, you’ll be able to check Domain Authority, Page Authority in your projects for domains (in Domain Strength), pages, backlinks, and link prospects.

Primarliy, Domain Authority (DA) concept was introduced by MOZ.

“Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how well a website will rank on search engine result pages (SERPs). A Domain Authority score ranges from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to a greater ability to rank.

Domain Authority is calculated by evaluating linking root domains, number of total links, and many other factors.
