About the Unlock PDF tool
Unlock PDF removes the open password and the printing, copying and editing restrictions from a PDF you already have the password for. It is handy for documents you open often — bank statements, payslips or reports — or for files you need to merge, compress or edit with other tools that cannot handle encryption.
This tool does not crack or guess passwords: you must enter the correct password, and the document is decrypted on your own device. In most cases the unlocked PDF keeps its text, fonts and quality. If a file uses an unusual encryption variant, the tool can fall back to rebuilding the pages as images — it tells you clearly when that happens, because text is then no longer selectable.
Your file never leaves your device — it is processed in your browser. To decrypt the file, the page downloads the open-source @cantoo/pdf-lib library from the jsDelivr CDN; only that program code is downloaded — your PDF and your password are never sent anywhere.
