About the Compare PDF tool

Compare PDF shows exactly what changed between two versions of a document — a contract before and after negotiation, two drafts of a report or an updated price list. In text mode the words of each page are compared and the differences are shown side by side: removed words are highlighted in red on the original, added words in green on the new version.

Visual mode renders the same page of both files and highlights every pixel that differs, which catches changes text comparison cannot see, such as moved images, logos, signatures, colours or layout shifts. You can download the text comparison as an HTML report to keep or share. Both documents are processed only in your browser and are never uploaded.

100% private: your file never leaves your device — it is processed in your browser. No upload, no storage, no account.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?
Yes — Compare PDF is completely free and unlimited. There is no account, sign-up, watermark or credit card required.
Are my files uploaded to your server?
No. Both PDFs are read and compared entirely in your web browser, so they never leave your device. Nothing is uploaded or stored.
Can it compare scanned PDFs?
Text mode needs real text in the PDF, so scanned documents show no text. Use visual mode for scans — it compares what the pages look like.
How are pages matched?
Page 1 is compared with page 1, page 2 with page 2 and so on. If one document has extra pages, they are reported as added or removed.
Does it detect formatting changes?
Text mode compares words only. Changes in fonts, colours, images or layout are found by visual mode.
