About the PDF to Word tool

PDF to Word turns a PDF into a Word document you can edit. The converter reads the text of every page, rebuilds lines and paragraphs from their positions, detects headings from larger font sizes, keeps bold and italic text, recognises bulleted and numbered lists and joins words that were hyphenated at the end of a line. The result is a clean, reflowable .docx that opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages.

Need the document to look exactly like the PDF instead? Choose “Keep layout as images” and every page is placed in the Word file as a high-resolution image — a perfect visual copy, although the text is not editable. Scanned PDFs contain no text; run them through OCR PDF first.

100% private: your file never leaves your device — it is processed in your browser. No upload, no storage, no account.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?
Yes — PDF to Word is completely free and unlimited. There is no account, sign-up, watermark or credit card required.
Are my files uploaded to your server?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your web browser using JavaScript, so your PDF never leaves your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone.
Will the Word file look exactly like my PDF?
In the default editable mode the text, headings, lists and emphasis are preserved, but complex layouts (multiple columns, text boxes, tables, images) are simplified into a single flowing document. Choose “Keep layout as images” for an exact visual copy.
Are images and tables converted?
Editable mode focuses on the text; images are not extracted and tables become lines of text. For tables, try PDF to Excel.
What about scanned PDFs?
A scanned PDF is just pictures of pages, so there is no text to extract. Run it through our free OCR PDF tool first to add a text layer, then convert the OCR’d file.
